Nearly 140 years of history

1886

Birth of a myth

The story of FAUCHON begins in 1886, when Auguste FAUCHON, a young Norman passionate about quality products, decided to settle in Paris. At just thirty years old, and after valuable experience at Félix Potin, he embarked on a culinary adventure that would make history. He chose Place de la Madeleine to open his grocery store specializing in French products. His ambition was clear: to offer Parisians exceptional products from his native Normandy.
The year 1886 thus marked the beginning of the legendary FAUCHON brand, a name that would become synonymous with luxury and excellence in gastronomy.

1892

Tea the french way

In 1889, the opening of the ‘Grand Salon de Thé’ in Paris revolutionised the French art of living and at the same time offered a refined space dedicated to women. It was in this cosy setting that the spirit of tea was reborn in Paris, and with it, the blossoming of women. Auguste Fauchon introduced the ‘French afternoon tea’, creating emblematic in-house blends such as Five O'Clock and Siva (still part of the range today), bringing out a palette of aromas and flavours hitherto unknown.

1923

The Place de la Madeleine expansion

Established since 1886 in the former Post Office building in Place de la Madeleine, Auguste FAUCHON decided to take a new step forward in 1923. There, at number 28, opposite his historic store, he opened a new retail space dedicated to baking, confectionery, and pastries. Place de la Madeleine became FAUCHON's stronghold, reflecting the elegance and refinement that characterize the brand.

1932

FAUCHON Seeds

Building on its expansion during the Roaring Twenties, FAUCHON became a popular destination for elegant women, reflecting the flamboyant and unconventional spirit of those years.
In 1932, the brand adopted an iconic symbol: the FAUCHON logo, the famous black and white "seed" pattern duplicated endlessly on bags and packaging, seen on delivery vans throughout Paris. The excellence of French gastronomy was proudly displayed across the capital.

1952

Higher and higher, further and further

In the 1950s, the partnership with Air France marked the beginning of FAUCHON's import-export activities and international visibility. This partnership allowed the brand to offer fresh, exotic, and sometimes extremely rare products to the French. Spanish melons, Chilean cherries, lotus roots, and even the first avocados were gracefully offered to the best customers. This period strengthened FAUCHON's global reputation and its ability to source the best products on an international scale.
Today, FAUCHON has 62 points of sale worldwide and a strong reputation in New York, Great Britain, and Japan.

1972

FAUCHON and Japan

In the 1960s, FAUCHON went from simply identifying and distributing culinary marvels to creating products, starting with a range of fruit-scented teas and then moving on to more innovative flavours such as flower petals. In the mid-60s, it was apple tea, which quickly became a best seller, that opened the doors to Japan for FAUCHON. In 1972, FAUCHON opened a shop in Tokyo. It was the first of the 22 FAUCHON shops now established on the Japanese islands. The company quickly became the leading importer of tea in Japan, as well as the leading exporter of French tea.

1986

A taste for culinary curiosity

Since 1886, FAUCHON has stood out for its selection of unusual and innovative products. From the art of savoury to the finesse of sweet, FAUCHON cultivates gustatory exploration to share with as many people as possible. For almost 140 years, this quest for the exceptional has attracted renowned chefs such as Pierre Hermé, Christophe Adam and Cédric Grolet to perfect their art. Today, the house continues to create dishes and desserts that combine modernity and tradition, bringing joy, pleasure and surprise to our customers.

2018

FAUCHON and the art of hospitality

In 2018, FAUCHON opened the Hôtel Paris on Place de la Madeleine, the historic birthplace of the company. Combining hotel excellence and French gastronomy. With this hotel, the company is perpetuating Auguste's legacy: from importing products to exporting the French art of living. From private services and exclusive tours to the Gourmet Bar and refined creations, FAUCHON invites its guests to experience unforgettable moments in elegant surroundings. The art of entertaining, the French way.

2021

FAUCHON School

Since its inception, FAUCHON has always trained talented individuals and chefs, passing on exceptional know-how and nurturing a passion for gastronomy, so it was only natural that in 2021, in Rouen, the birthplace of Auguste Fauchon, the Fauchon School was born. Aimed at enthusiasts and professionals alike, the school offers high-level training in pastry-making, baking and gourmet cooking. Participants discover the advanced techniques and secrets of FAUCHON artisans in an inspiring and refined setting.
