Cahors Royale 2011 Château de Cayx - THE 75 CL BOTTLE
Situated in the heart of the Cahors vineyards, the Château de Cayx already existed at the beginning of the 15th century, and in all probability well before that. It was probably originally a fortress built to control and pay for navigation on the Lot. The vineyard of Cayx, planted on nearly 24 hectares, remarkably exposed to the south and sheltered from the north winds, benefits from a great deal of sunshine. La Royale benefits from an excellent terroir, part of which was replanted in 2002. This high density planting (6,660 vines per hectare) makes it possible to limit the yield per vine and thus obtain better quality grapes. The wine is ebony black in colour, with a nose of spicy and vanilla notes, and is very concentrated on the palate, full of power and amplitude. La Royale is a wine for ageing par excellence, and offers magnificent potential in the tradition of the grands crus. Made only in exceptional years.
